Edinburgh Taxi Trade Kids Outing 2018

Every year on the second Tuesday in June, Edinburgh’s taxi drivers take time off to treat some very special children to a day at the seaside.

All the taxis leave from Edinburgh Zoo at around 10am and make their way down the Royal Mile, along London Road, through Portobello and arriving in Musselburgh at around 11.30am.

From there the taxis head out along the coast road, through Cockenzie, Port Seton and Gullane, and finally ending up at Dirleton where they enjoy the rest of their day.

Drivers take time from their normal working day to decorate their taxis with balloons, streamers and anything else they can get their hands on. A competition is held every year for the best dressed taxi and there have been some incredible creations in previous years such as Postman Pat, a Bi-Plane, Cow and even an Elephant.

Kids and drivers are encouraged to carry as much water as possible. Bystanders minding their own business might get a shock as the kids are all armed with water pistols and balloons. It’s not only

the public who need to watch out as the occasional escorting police officer usually gets caught out.

It really is a fantastic from the drivers and we can’t thank them enough for making the effort each year. Taking a day off work to be involved in the Kids Outing is a small price to pay considering the amount of fantastic kids that the whole day benefits.
